We ate almost all our meals on the lanai overlooking the ocean. Grady always seemed to claim the best seat in the house.
We bought most of our groceries from Costco and had many different kinds of fish that James would BBQ. One of my favorite meals was fish tacos. Mexican seems to be one of James specialties, but he only cooks them on vacation.
Night swimming was big hit. As I already mentioned, this year we added in the sunset watch and headed right to the pool after in order to get in an early night swim and up to bed in a decent hour. The sun sets at 630 so every night we ate in (which was most) we would head down for the sunset and a swim.
Some nights the water so so warm. Other nights the wind was so chilly that I would watch from the sidelines or only go in the hot tub. No matter the temperature, the kids were all in and happy to swim in the dark.
We spent all our time in the main pool. Our hotel room actually looked down on this pool so we could tell if it is busy before we headed down. It always was busy and many days we couldn't even get a chair. It didn't matter much as we never got to sit in them anyway, it was just a place to store all the crap we brought to the pool each morning.
Grady could touch the bottom of the entire pool, as could Nana, so it was a popular choice for everyone. Another bonus was that there was a hot tub on each side of the pool that I could sit in and watch the kids bump of the ledges over and over.
Cooper still wanted to caught and preferred not to get his face wet.
Like every other year, Grady collected maps. Unlike every other year, Grandma wasn't there to read them with him. Grandma has created a monster that still collects maps and brochures even when she isn't there. For the record, we brought them all home with us and they have not yet made it to the recycle bin.
Cooper ate many jam sandwiches and other meals and snacks naked. The routine when we got back from the pool was to strip down naked and chill out for a bit before putting on dry clothes. The kids that is.
I took every opportunity possible to read my book in the sunshine. With a Chelada if possible. It is a premixed beer and clam in a can. The only problem is that the can is actually 2 beer. I guess it could be a good thing or a bad thing depending on how you look at it.
We took an annual trip to the aquarium. We came super close to not going this year but Grady injured his foot at the pool towards the end of the trip and had to stay out of the water for the day... so off to the aquarium we went. It is super pricey for the amount of time we actually spend there but the kids seem to enjoy themselves.
We made our annual trip to Mama's Fish House, the very first place I ever had fish. It didn't disappoint. While it isn't an inexpensive place to eat, the scenery was unbeatable. For the first time, we got to sit right up front over looking the ocean, how beautiful is that!
The great thing about this place is the kids love it to. They don't love it for the food, but they have a canoe out front to play in and it is a great spot for shell collecting. We also take them during the day as to not disrupt other diners, that and to enjoy the view.
That about covers up our trip. I love that our kids are growing to love Maui as much as we do. It is very interesting to see how much they grow and change from year to year and they become more adventurous and willing to try new things.
We had a great trip and many memories were made. But all things come to an end. I like to think that we wouldn't appreciate our vacation and time off if we didn't spend most our time in our reality, whatever that may be. Until next year Maui......
